Warming Southern Spain (Lancaster)
A visit to the Costa del Sol or the area around Alicante will soon warm you right through to the heart, and so it's true of the wines from this area. From Valencia down to Alicante inland regions such as Jumilla and Yecla offer deliciously full bodied warming reds made from Monastrell. A name not that well known but if you consider this grape is also known as Mourvedre in France where it is a vital ingredient for the best Cotes Du Rhone wines and of course the famous Chateauneuf-du-Pape it will tell you something about how good these wines are. The area was once famous for its almost black pure Monastrell wines but now blends with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon to create real delights for the Red Wine Lover. You will experience the quality of wines from Valdepeñas, an area at the southern tip of the world's largest vineyard - La Mancha - where quality wine making has existed for decades. What does the word Sherry conjure up for you? Let us show how the old image of Granny's sweet sticky brown stuff brought out of the cupboard at Xmas is completely unjustified as you taste wonderful Dry Sherry that is a perfect match for food such as olives.
