Bordeaux, Rhone Valley & Southern France (Lancaster)
Bordeaux is France's largest wine region with some 12,000 vineyards. Home to some of the most expensive wines and most famous grape varieties, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. We'll taste some great examples of both colours of wine!
The Rhone Valley is home to the wonderful warm & spicy reds produced from Syrah (aka Shiraz) & Grenache such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueryas & Cotes du Rhone. All of these are delicious wines with very good quality controls, but what does 'village' mean on the label? What's the significance of names like Cairanne or Sablét? Learn the answer to these and many more questions while tasting delicious examples of fruity red wines including a delicious Chateauneuf-du-Pape from The Rhone.
Southern France is answering the New World challenge with blends using local grapes such as Carignan with so-called International Varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The result is wonderfully fruity warming reds.
Join us on this evening for a range of Southern French wines to carry your thoughts off to the height of summer.
